When I first read
The Catcher in the Rye, I did not fully appreciate or understand the literary greatness that I was privy too. Being forced to read this book at such a young age made it "required."
It was not until later, when I decided to pick up Salinger's works, that I began to understand his words, his meaning, and read with a reflective mind.
Today, we lost one of the greatest authors of the 20th Century, and arguably of our time.
J.D. Salinger wrote with wisdom...and as I was googling quotations from him today, I was reminded of how affective his words can be....
"I used to think she was quite intelligent , in my stupidity. The reason I did was because she knew quite a lot about the theater and plays and literature and all that stuff. If somebody knows quite a lot about all those things, it takes you quite a while to find out whether they're really stupid or not."
"I love you to pieces, distraction, etc."
"Keep me up till five because all your stars are out, and for no other reason…Oh dare to do it Buddy! Trust your heart. You’re a deserving craftsman. It would never betray you. Good night. I’m feeling very much over-excited now, and a little dramatic, but I think I’d give almost anything on earth to see you writing a something, an anything, a poem, a tree, that was really and truly after your own heart."
"What I was really hanging around for, I was trying to feel some kind of a good-bye. I mean I've left schools and places I didn't even know I was leaving them. I hate that. I don't care if it's a sad good-bye, or a bad good-bey, but when I leave a place I like to know I'm leaving it. If you don't, you feel even worse.”...
